Terms of Service
The rules of the vault.
The terms that govern your use of PGVault, our accounts, and the backups you run into your own Google Drive.
Acceptance of these terms
These Terms govern your use of the PGVault service, website, and associated software (together, the “Service”). By creating an account or using the Service you agree to be bound by these Terms and by our Privacy Policy.
If you are using the Service on behalf of a company or other organization, you confirm that you are authorized to bind that organization to these Terms.
What the Service does
PGVault lets you schedule and run backups of PostgreSQL databases and object storage, and deliver the resulting archive files to your own Google Drive.
PGVault provides the tooling and the automation. Your backups, retention decisions, and their contents are your responsibility. The service behaves as described in our documentation, and may change over time as we evolve it.
Accounts and sign-in
You need an account, and we use Google authentication to create and manage it. You are responsible for keeping access to your Google account secure, because anyone who can sign in to it can sign in to PGVault.
You may not create accounts for someone else’s benefit without their permission, or allow another party to control your account.
Your responsibilities
You are responsible for the accuracy of the connection details, schedules, and settings you configure, and for ensuring you are entitled to back up the data at source.
By attaching a database or storage target, you confirm that you have the right to access it, and that your use of the Service with it complies with all agreements and laws that govern it.
You are responsible for archiving, restoring, and validating your own backups, and for ensuring that IDs and owner access to the target stay correct. PGVault cannot restore data it is not granted access to.
Where the target is not under your control, you should obtain the owner-access arrangement from the operator before configuring backups, and you agree the operator’s policies apply.
Acceptable use
You agree not to misuse the Service — examples include attempting to break or probe its security, scraping or reselling it, building competing automation against it, interfering with other users, circumventing limits, or using it to store obviously unlawful or rights-infringing content.
We may suspend a specific target or your access if we suspect abuse or a security or legal issue, and will tell you promptly where we can.
Availability and quality
We aim to keep the Service reliable and available, but we do not guarantee uninterrupted availability or that every backup will succeed. Software systems fail; that is precisely why you have backups.
We do not guarantee that all of your retention schedules will be honored perfectly — for example, external Drive limits could pause the delivery of a scheduled run.
Data and privacy
Your data is protected as described in our Privacy Policy, which is part of these Terms. You keep ownership of, and responsibility for, the data you back up. We do not claim ownership of it, and we do not read it beyond what is needed to run your backups.
Intellectual property
The Service, its code, design, and trademarks are the property of PGVault and its licensors. You may not copy, resell, or reverse the Service except as permitted by applicable law.
Disclaimer of warranties
The Service is provided as is, without warranties of any kind, express or implied, including the implied warranties of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, and non-infringement. We do not warrant that the Service will be uninterrupted, error-free, or that archives will always be generated exactly as configured.
Limitation of liability
To the maximum extent permitted by law, PGVault and its contributors shall not be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages, or for any lost profits, revenue, goodwill, or data, arising from your use of or inability to use the Service, even if we knew of them.
Our total liability for all claims related to the Service during any calendar year will not exceed the amount you paid us, if any, during that year. Nothing in these Terms limits a party’s liability for fraud, gross negligence, or liability that cannot be excluded by law.
Termination
You may stop using the Service at any time and delete your account. We may suspend or terminate access if you breach these Terms, if the law requires it, or to protect the Service and its users.
On termination, your ability to run backups ends, but you keep access to your Drive archive files under Google’s consent controls. Sections of these Terms that by nature survive termination — including the IP, warranty disclaimer, and liability limits — continue to apply.
Changes to these terms
We may revise these Terms periodically. Material changes will be announced in the Service or by email, and continued use after the change goes live means you accept the updated Terms.
